[By Vastra's reckoning, years have passed. Her position at Scotland Yard has been elevated considerably, and in addition her little inner circle has expanded to a veritable 'Gang' of sorts. She and Jenny were married and happy, the Doctor had some of his familiar spark back, and yet...]

[Vastra leaves the woods, her hat veil trailing behind her as she carries it in her hand. Luceti, again. Warmer this time, thankfully, however it was not a welcome sight.]

[Not much seems to have changed, though upon her return to Luceti Vastra regrets leaving behind the few friends she had made. Natasha, Mr. Barnes, Miss Amelia, and Loki to name a few. However life went on and it went at a very quick clip after her return. Now those feelings of regret were resurfacing. Part of her wonders if they escaped, and hopes they did. Part of her feels slightly deflated that should they be gone, she would have to start completely over. This time with the knowledge that her wife was missing her, not just her paramour.]

[She walks down into the village, the path still familiar, repositioning the black hat and veil over her face. She takes it in, as much as she can, and feels very uneasy when she gets the sense that the changes she sees are extremely superficial...]

[When she arrives at the room she had, there is plastic over the furniture--and though the clothes and personal items are gone, it appears the heavier things never moved. Vastra pulls the cover off her familiar chair, sits, and opens her journal.]

Is there anyone here who recalls seeing me a few years ago? I realize this is most likely a strange message, however as unsettling as Luceti is, little seems to have changed since my departure. I suppose this is simply the nature of this place?

Oh, neither have I, but after being on suspension for some time, I'd rather not go through with that mess again. Terribly boring, you see. Not a thing to do and all the good work slipped right through my fingers.

Clearly the answer is to make yourself the only one who can carry through with the good work. Then I suspect they will let you break all the rules you care to break.

If only. I do try to make myself indispensable, but Will has yet to see my merits. He only sees that I break uniform code, but honestly, who can keep such stiff appearances forever? A lady needs a little colour in her outfit or she may as well be blind.

I honestly do not understand what men have against color. They do wear so many pieces of clothing, it seems only natural to experiment with color as the women do. But the most bold I have seen is a bit of a stripe or sometimes a brocade. And formal occasions-- black and white, and only black and white. Perhaps not to clash horribly with their ladies.

Finally! Someone who understands! I can't stand how bland men make their fashion! The lines are gorgeous, but there is no flair! No experimentation. A little hint of colour even on one's waistcoat can do wonders.

And if they're so concerned about clashing, they only have to talk to their women to coordinate. It isn't as if women aren't thinking about their outfits for the next Season months in advance.

I would guess there is very little concern for clashing, and very little concentrated effort to communicate. In my experience most men get a very strange form of lock-jaw when presented with a choice. Perhaps limiting the palette is an attempt to avoid morning meltdowns when they cannot decide between blue and red.

Well, that is simple enough - always choose red. [As if blue was ever a choice. Sheesh.]

But, I suppose you have a point. Best to leave the fashion to the ones with actual sense for it, hm? I dread to think of what a man would do, given freedom over their companion's attire.

[...eh...] It isn't really my color, but I can appreciate certain shades of it. [Namely the ones that lean more towards burgundy or purple.]

...yes that is too terrifying a prospect. [Now she's imagining how Strax might dress her. Not that she's in love with the 'Turkish' man, but he is the most socially inept being she knows. One always defaults to the worst-case scenario, after all.]

Can you imagine the Season if it were directed by men? Certainly the parties would be interesting, but the attire? [Grell sighs. She had to attend the last Season in drab blacks. It was the worst moment in over 200 years of unlife and she is never going to forgive Madam Red for that. So rude.]

It would look like a funeral!
