[Sometimes the path of life curves in an interesting way. And sometimes the little bridge you were walking over spontaneously develops a hole, and you have no idea where you've landed because the little bridge that should be over your head is gone.]
[Vastra has felt this feeling before, when she awoke to a world no longer ruled by her kind, but by mankind. It was a dark time in her life, and she reasoned there would be no darker time for her. Of course, she'd reasoned incorrectly.]
[From what she can tell, where she is now isn't England, or any country or planet she'd heard of before. But that isn't the ultimate problem. The problem is that there's snow on the ground, and she's barely dressed. No skirts, no coat, no hat, no cloak, no gloves, no shoes, and she's freezing in her little flimsy dress with strangely short sleeves. A few Cybermen-like figures slog through the snow nearby, though Vastra figured out hours ago that they weren't actual Cybermen. Fortunate, given she has no sword either.]
[As she makes her progress through the trees, Vastra can feel that the climate is getting warmer, but not warm enough to stave off her body's automatic hibernation. She rests herself against a tree briefly, to rest, and tries to stave off the heavy feeling of her body shutting down. If she hibernated now, who knew when she would wake up again?]
((OOC: Vastra's arrived! And she's somewhere between Ice Age and Space Opera! Where her journal is though, is a good question.....))

You're going to freeze like that. [She points out, eyes narrowing slightly at the flimsy-looking shirt the man has on. He seems like a heartily-built type, but it's freezing out and he can't possibly stand the temperature in just a shirt.] I just need a few minutes walking in this, then you should take it back.
no subject
Yeah, nice try. You're wearing a potato sack. It's not worth the hot air arguing with me lady. [He's been trained in the Steve Rogers School of Stubborn. Maybe if he keeps talking it'll stop his teeth from chattering.] I'm Bucky, by the way.
no subject
[She frowns and keeps walking, holding the furs around her and trying to convince herself that if the mammal wanted to freeze, that was his choice. She'd done everything she could.]
...Vastra. And I wouldn't call arguing with you 'hot air'. I am familiar with your physiology, you will die if you remain exposed for very long. [She pulls the coat into her tighter to indicate it.] This is only preventing me from hibernation.
no subject
[He's a little surprised she knows what America is, so it's worth a shot. Apparently he can't take his own advice about that hot air. He wants to make a joke about dames getting familiar with his physiology while he's at it, so maybe she'll be irritated enough to just keep the damn coat, but to be honest it's just too cold.
He nods at the name.] Alright, fine, throw it at me if it looks like I'm gonna die. Suppose if you fall asleep here I could just carry you.
no subject
That would be the smartest thing to do, [She agrees, trudging through the snow and casting a glance back at her new traveling companion.] However given I have only just met you, I hope you will not take offense at my hesitation to let you carry me while I am unconscious, Mr. Bucky.
[...and now that she thinks about it, what sort of name is 'Bucky'? Mammals...]

[Amelia isn't in a good mood anyway. She's only cutting through the snowy Ice Age area because she has to, and her thought is to get out of there as soon as possible. The furs covering her in place of clothes only help so much, and she's setting a quick pace through the zone.
At least until she catches sight of Bucky wearing next to nothing in the freezing cold. Then she changes course, ignoring the reptilian looking woman next to him in favor of yelling at her boyfriend.]
Are you trying to get yourself killed? As if getting shot wasn't bad enough, now you're out here in that!
no subject
[At first Bucky thinks he's hearing things, and the cold's just gone to his head. It's possible. But then Amelia stomps into view and oh, crap.]
Nice to see you too honey. [Smile.] This is Ms. Vastra, she just arrived in nothing but-- [And he's cut off again by a sneeze.] But her Newfeather digs.
no subject
[She tries to keep her smile to herself, and small, but it's there.]
Oh don't try to pin this on me, Mr. Barnes. I did offer to trade off in the interest of keeping him alive, miss, however he seems rather resolved to walk about in his skivvies. But I suspect he's about to change his mind.
[You're welcome, Bucky. ♥]

No, he isn’t. He’s too much of a damn idiot. [And on top of his typical stubbornness, he’s right. Amelia’s been in the New Feather dress. It’s not going to do anything for Vastra in the cold.] We’ve got to move fast. [Which is a message as much for herself as it is for the other two; Amelia’s about to make herself miserable. She unties the straps keeping the pelts tight around her, then opens the covering. Amelia steps close to Bucky’s side, pressing herself against him with a hissed out curse as the cold hits her, followed shortly by the hives. Luckily the pelts are large, and Amelia can get them most of the way around herself and Bucky. She doesn’t waste a lot of time trying anyway, starting to walk as soon as she’s sure they won’t lose the thing mid-step.]

[He doesn't argue with Amelia. She knows he's not going to take his coat back unless he actually thinks he's in trouble, and he knows he's in deep anyway. He doesn't expect it when she starts to unlace her coat, and he almost argues but it's a little too late for that.
It's blissfully warm, and he takes the other end from her to help hold it around both of their shoulders. She's right, but he feels guilty anyway. That night at the bar he barely touched her and she couldn't stand it for ten seconds.]
Just two minutes. Are you gonna be okay?
no subject
Well it seems his mind was changed for him. [She raises her eyebrow at Bucky--no way in hellfire is she going to walk around in less than this. It was practically indecent how exposed she was.]
[But she could think and talk while they walked, and so Vastra walked as fast as she could under the circumstances. It felt like her joints were starting to stick.] Miss while I appreciate the assistance, it seems as though whatever you are doing is triggering some sort of condition you have. Perhaps everyone would be better off if you simply carried me.
[Hypocrisy? No, no... not at all.]
no subject
Easier than trying to get through his thick skull. [Because while Amelia gets his reasoning, it's still a stupid thing for him to have done.]
Amelia. My name's Amelia. And it doesn't matter who I touch. This happens every time. [She almost tacks on that it's an allergy, but it doesn't feel entirely truthful anymore. So instead she shoots a look toward Bucky, who is apparently trying to set a time limit.]
Only if we make it across in two minutes. [There's zero chance that she's going to let him out of the furs before they get out of the Ice Age.] I'll be fine. Just keep going.
no subject
[When did his life become his girlfriend and a lizard lady talking about him over his head while they all freeze in the damn ice age.
It's easier to focus on than fighting with Amelia. If it gets to be too much for her he'll just go right ahead and duck out.] Fine.
And I thought you said you didn't want to be carried by strangers, Ms. Vastra.
no subject
[What a strange reaction to have to touching anyone though. Of course, there were many strange things in the world, but Vastra had never seen anything quite like what Amelia suffered from. It must have made the physical side of Bucky and Amelia's relationship very trying. From what she had seen of them though, it was sweet and sincere. No matter how much they snapped at one another.]
no subject
But if he wants to try it, he’s got an excellent opportunity. Vastra’s comments about being carried by Amelia and how she would feel about inappropriate behavior have the woman nearly stopping where she stood.]
Are—are you flirting with me? [It’s not something Amelia generally takes well in the best of circumstances. But being hit on by a lizard woman in the middle of a blizzard? That’s definitely a new one for her.]
no subject
At Vastra's words there's a brief moment of confusion, then comprehension as his eyes narrow. He can feel Amelia tense up beside him, and while he's normally pretty laidback about this sort of thing, there are lines.]
I'm only gonna tell you this once: don't flirt with my girl.
no subject
Well, aren't you progressive. [Vastra laughs and smiles in both amusement and delight.] Where I'm from, most men just laugh uncomfortably and change the subject. You need not worry though, I have someone waiting for me. And I would have done the same thing if you had started on her, Mr. Barnes. [She turns back to face the direction they're walking in.] You can't blame me for pointing out the obvious though, you're very pretty Miss Amelia. I'm sorry for being the cause of your discomfort. [She points in the general direction of her own neck and shoulder to indicate the strange rash.]
no subject
Hey. I can take care of myself, you know. [Although Amelia doesn't put the force behind the words she normally might, she's still obligated to point that out. She isn't hit on nearly so much in Luceti as she would be in her own world, unusual source aside.
Vastra apologizes for it, in a way, and that's more consideration than a lot of people show for it. She gets a nod, although Amelia doesn't agree with the last part of it.] Not like you chose what you're wearing. It's what all the women wake up in when they first arrive.
no subject
That's about all the ribbing he'll do - Vastra apologized, and more importantly, Amelia seems to forgive it easily.]
What can I say? I'm an equal-opportunity defensive boyfriend.
And if she was cute, and I wasn't with someone special, I'd probably do the same so I suppose I can't really talk.
[He nods.] Heads up ladies, I think we're almost there.
no subject
So-- [The comment that they were almost there makes Vastra stop mid-sentence to look. Because yes, she is incredibly sick of the snow, too sick to actually make a witty retort (which is impressive, truth be told). The skyline of a more futuristic city is in fact becoming more visible through the falling snow.] I never thought I would be so happy to see another robot. [She says mildly.]
no subject
But the end is near, and Amelia quickly vocalizes her relief when, like the other two, she sees buildings in the distance.] Thank God. [With the end literally in sight, Amelia starts to walk faster. Itchy and freezing are two things she hates to be. But she’s not so focused on the goal that she’s stopped listening, and when Vastra mentions the robots though, Amelia’s quick to shake her head.]
Don’t get used to that around here. Any other time you see robots, it’s a bad thing.
no subject
[He nods at what Amelia says.] You might be able to fight 'em off sometimes, but they're still bad news.
[It starts to warm up as soon as they get near the boundary, and as they move further in the furs are replaced. He steps away from Amelia and he has about three seconds to appreciate the warmth before embarrassment sets in, and Bucky folds his arms across his chest. Yeah, they're not talking about this.] ...Come on, let's find somewhere to sit down.
no subject
[What Vastra finds herself in is a little uncomfortably familiar. And honestly, after a few years of corseting, feels like she's only slightly more clothed than she was in the dress and furs.]
Tell me about these 'robots' that are bad news. [She asks, following as they move to find somewhere to sit.] What do they look like?
